Get Stoked: MegaForce

Listen.

You can go to medical school and waste a ton of time and money on learning anatomy, the nervous system, the skeletal system and all that BS and maybe you’ll come away with an understanding of what it is that makes up a man.

Or I could just tell you.

-35% The desire to hang out with other bad-ass dudes kicking serious ass as a crew.

-5% Motorcycles w/rockets (variable as any vechicle w/rockets actually count).

-25% Hot chicks in tight outfits.

-15% Explosions (this covers all explosions including orgasms and beers in cans).

-5% Dope ass logos (on cars, clothing, place of work, home.  Ideally all the same logo).

-10% A theme song that never goes out of style, even when every instrument used to create it goes out of style.

-5% Meat.

Travis note: Aqua did not exist as a color before the filming of this movie.  They had to invent it for the scarf Commander Ace Hunter wears with his outfit.

Jay Z, still the man.

I loved this song from the second I heard the title. I didn’t even need to hear it, I just knew that I fell in love with Jay Z all over again just for putting out this song and addressing the auto-tune-vomit-inducing-trend in music. He put out a nice video for it too. Blowing up bling and Cristal… if it’s Jay that helps usher out the clown-ish-ness of hip-hop and brings it back to the good shit, then more power to him! Style wise, I got a little nervous that he would try to be “streetwear thug” in the video, and thank goodness, he didn’t. Jay does it as every single man on the Planet should do it. Dressed in all black, no labels, no logos, no Skittles colors, no loud sneakers… he is dressed like a grown ass man with a shit ton of money and some style. OOOOOO WEEEE, do I love this look. He shows he’s the Godfather of this game, always has been, always will be…

And, uh, can we just talk about how FINE Harvey Keitel is for an old dude? He will always remain on my Top 10 list. He just oozes BADDASS out of every single pore on his body. He better not let me catch him tipsy at a Hollywood bar…. I’m just sayin….

PS- this is Jenn, obviously. Travis is more of a Pacino man than a Keitel man…

Duh.

Jenn’s Obsession of the Week: Phoenix “Lasso”

Posted in Pop Culture with tags , , , , , , on June 29, 2009 by lipstuck

Jenn says this song is like having little fairies have orgasms in your ears while you dance under a rainbow with Jesus.

I would never describe it that way because I like having sex with girls.

Jenn’s note: please notice that Travis tagged this as “fairiegasm”… that is why we are the Jack White and Meg White of blogs. The White Stripes of Awesomeness in other words.

MSTRKRFT ft. John Legend “Heartbreaker”

Travis: Video came in via Han Cholo.  Total highschool crush party radness.

Jenn: I just filled out an application for the 98 Cent & Less store on Pico and am praying that a cute boy in a white Fred Perry jacket comes in. We are going to eat Lucas candy together and he’s going to buy me cut up fruit con limon y chili from the guy on the corner and bring it to me on my break. That’s love.

Dedicated Covers: Deftones “Please, Please, Please (The Smiths)”

After spending three months pleading my case for a Deftones cover of Falco’s “Jenny” we are no closer than when we started.  I need to find another argument other than “Falco is cool…he’s like the Austrian James Dean.  Totally killed himself in a porche crash on the autobaun!”

YouTube enabling

Posted in Pop Culture with tags , on June 29, 2009 by lipstuck

So it seems that any clip on youtube that might have revenue potential has the embeding disabled so that you have to double click and watch the clip on YouTube itself.  With an ad at the bottom.

Even though the ad can be clicked off this is still lame.

Harold + Maude + Cat Stevens= AMAZING.

I was left feeling far lower than awesome yesterday after two childhood idols died. I almost even backed out of this cool event I was going to last night, but decided to go and WOW am I happy I went! It was for a screening of the cult classic movie Harold and Maude, and in addition to having CAT STEVENS there to perform the songs from the movie, LIVE (uh, yeah, he hasn’t performed them in like 30 years or some shit like that, it was stellar) they also had a panel with Peter Bart, Cameron Crowe, Judd Apatow, Seth Rogen, Diablo Cody, Jeff Berg, Jon Voight and Haskell Wexler.

It was amazing to see one of my all-time favorite movies on the big screen, the way movies are meant to be seen. Since this movie was made before I was born, it was going to be a challenge to ever see it on a big screen, so when I was sent the info on this one I jumped at the chance! If you have never seen this movie, go rent it. It is the original dark-sarcastic comedy and an amazing story of life and death and love. There are some fantastic one-liners throughout the whole movie too!

And to add a little stab to Travis, too bad you missed out on this one bud…. the guy that played Harold showed up afterward and talked for a little bit. AND- I saw Rosanna Arquette looking hot as ever. Sucks to be you, Monkey Claw.
