I might not have gotten my car washed this weekend, but I do have great friends.

Bon Iver “Blood Bank”
Posted in Pop Culture with tags blood bank, Bon Iver, music, twangy guitar on August 31, 2009 by lipstuckMy Bloody Valentine “To Here Knows When”
Posted in Pop Culture with tags music, music so loud your brain turns to warm pudding, my bloody valentine on August 31, 2009 by lipstuckI’ve noticed that I sweat in this weird, discreet way–where I don’t realize I’m hot and the next thing I know my shirt is drenched. Not sure what that is about.
iLiKETRAiNS “Spencer Perceval”
Posted in Pop Culture with tags guitars rule, iLiKETRAiNS, music, spencer perceval, yeah I like songs that take their time to get where they're going on August 31, 2009 by lipstuckYou ever wonder what Explosions in the Sky would sound like with a singer?
Freur “Doot Doot”
Posted in Pop Culture with tags doot doot, freur, kinda gay, music, what the hell is he singing about? on August 31, 2009 by lipstuckSo I had never heard this song before yesterday. Now I’ve heard it like 200 times and I still have no idea what it is about but it is pretty epic. And this video has fencers and a unicorn running around so I assume God was in this band or something because you don’t get much radder than that.
All credit goes to C. Smith for this one.
Zola Jesus “Last Day”
Posted in Pop Culture with tags fuzzy, I'm sure this is some NYC shit, last day, music, zola jesus on August 28, 2009 by lipstuckI like how music is spread nowadays.
A friend sent me a link to a clothing line she wanted me to check out (which was rad. Like a cross between Han Cholo and Polo…Han Polo I guess) and the soundtrack for the fashion show clip that was embeded was by this band Zola Jesus.
So then a quick Youtube search and Voila! Here they are…available for our millions of readers to hear.
It is like the digital version of passing zines around. My brain likes this.
Dedicated Covers: Deftones “If Only Tonight We Could Sleep (Cure)”
Posted in Pop Culture with tags dedicated covers, Deftones, if only tonight we could sleep, man this band owns my face, music, the cure on August 28, 2009 by lipstuckDeftones might do the greatest covers of all time. I am trying to figure out the best song for them to cover on their new album, but nothing I come up with would be considered cool. But I’m thinking, if they covered it, then it would become cool by default.
I mean T’Pau had a really good beat with “Heart and Soul” and hearing Chino belt that out would be dope right? Should I get into managing bands? I’d be all like “Less notes on that shit!” and “Slow it down!” and “Whats with all these words!!!!”

Guns N’ Roses “Don’t Cry”
Posted in Pop Culture with tags don't cry, get stoked, guns n' roses, music, slash and izzy were the best, total radness, two guitars are better than one on August 28, 2009 by lipstuckRemember when Guns N’ Roses was the best band in the world?
It was a simpler time.
These guys were like the scientists who break down DNA, except instead of working with DNA they were working with R&R…ahhh man, that was just lame. Like seriously? Jesus.
The idea being, the dudes broke life down to its most basic elements.
Okay, time to get to work.
Sun Kil Moon “Tonight the Sky”
Posted in Pop Culture with tags music, sun kil moon, the has some dirt on it that I like, tonight the sky on August 28, 2009 by lipstuckWhy is it whenever I try to pull off “Carefree English Prep School” I look more like “Wasted Japanese Business Man”?
This is absurd. Is it because I got my suits made in Hong Kong and not on Seville Row? Did I even spell that correctly? Yes, I’m still on cold medicine.
Jawbox “Savory”
Posted in Pop Culture with tags J. Robbins didn't invent this shit but he perfected it, jawbox, music, post-hardcore, savory, two guitars are better than one, yeah another fucking emo post on August 28, 2009 by lipstuckI’m not sure what my favorite band of all time is. That question is hard to answer. It is like “what is your favorite food”. Like, uh, how am I suppose to answer that? Anyway, I do always come back to Jawbox.
Dedicated Covers: Anthrax “Got the Time (Joe Jackson)”
Posted in Pop Culture with tags anthrax, dedicated covers, got the time, music, wow that took a long time to write on August 26, 2009 by lipstuckOkay picture some small city/big town. Basically anywhere but LA/NY/MIAMI (actually never picture Miami. Who even goes there? It is the city equivalent of a tanning salon. Gross).
Anyways, in this place you are picturing there are teenagers right?
Now, some of the guys in this place wear eyeliner and have their lips pierced and asymetrical haircuts.
What would a conversation between them, and the version of themselves that lived in this place 20 years earlier and listened to Anthrax sound like? Would they even be able to communicate? Or would they both recognize that they are both kind of dorky? And then would they party together?
