Jail Weddings “(Do You Think We’re Gonna End Up On) Skid Row?”
Posted in Pop Culture with tags 1950s, good to have a hook with your hooks, jail weddings, los angeles bands are getting it right, music on October 30, 2009 by lipstuckFinally saw these guys live last night and holyshit! It was like a really classy orgy where nobody felt uncomfortable, the lighting was perfect and nobody broke up afterwards.
Think Nick Cave meets Eddie and the Cruisers meets The Platters? My 1950s musical knowledge is limited. Let’s just say it was like making love to a beautiful punk rock chick while “Earth Angel” plays on repeat in the background.
Wow. I just creeped myself out.
GravenHurst “The Velvet Cell”
Posted in Pop Culture with tags augmented guitar chords sound great, GravenHurst, kind gay, music, the velvet cell on October 30, 2009 by lipstuck“To understand the killer, I must become the killer…and I don’t need this violence anymore.”
I prefer good tone over technical skills.
Wetnurse “Life At Stake”
Posted in Pop Culture with tags life at stake, music, new hardcore, so brutal your balls crawl up inside you like a samurai, wetnurse on October 30, 2009 by lipstuckHow do bands keep figuring out ways to increase the brutality of their music? Is it like oil engineers who keep finding new oil deposits?
Will we eventually reach a point where there is a shortage of musical brutality because bands like Wetnurse have sucked the earth dry?
What about our children? Leave something for the next generation guys!
“Wake Up!”
Posted in Pop Culture with tags "what kind of beer", almost famous, band guys, being a groupie is not for the faint of heart i guess, ouch on October 29, 2009 by lipstuckA good friend is the one that will always keep it real, no matter how painful it may be to literally watch your heart crumble in to a million little shards of “ouch”….
This scene is so heart wrenching and amazing…
“Gangster” skater vs. “Punk” skater
Posted in Pop Culture with tags i still haven't grown out of skate videos... or skaters, not punk, so tite, wolfmother on October 29, 2009 by lipstuckI only have 2 things to say about this video:
1. Wolfmother is punk rock? Maybe the guy that made this is from…. nah, I can’t even think of anywhere that would be an excuse for qualifying it as punk rock.
2- I’m pretty sure “gangster skater” has much happier balls in those baggy jeans.
seriously.
Posted in Pop Culture with tags americas most blunted, madvillian, someone get me the new shit- like.... NOW! on October 29, 2009 by lipstuck“Dude, I’ll kill someone for that new Madvillian. Seriously”
Dedicated Covers: SOAD “Shame on a Nigga (Wu-Tang)”
Posted in Pop Culture with tags dedicated covers, hiphop, music, rock, shame on a nigga, stranger friendships have happened, system of a down, was this RZA approved?, wu-tang clan on October 28, 2009 by lipstuckHOLY SHIT.
Um.
Why?
Like, if I think Jenn looks really fly in a designer dress she’s wearing, I can apprecate it. I may even compliment her on it. But I’m not going to ask if I can try it on.
This is just fucktarded!
Jenn’s note: i think this had to have been RZA approved…. because Shavo from System of a Down and RZA are not only neighbors here in LA (or were for a while) but also total BFF’s. They rival me & Brody in we-went-out-and-got-crazy-and-now-have-an-epic-story levels of BFF. Crazy, huh?
Travis note: Hmmm. Do you think SOAD were practicing and Shavo mentioned the RZA had moved next door and asked the band to help him think of ways to introduce himself?
Or was it an awkard mailbox moment where Shavo said “I love your music!” and the RZA said “Thanks!” and instead of just leaving it at that Shavo said “Uh…Yeah, funy enough, we were actually working on a cover of one of your songs!” and the RZA said “Huh…really?”
And then Shavo called his gnome guitarist and said “Uh, I fucked up and need a favor…”
There has to be a story behind it. Because the end collab is just too absurd for anyone to think “This sounds good”.
Jawbreaker “Kiss the bottle”
Posted in Pop Culture with tags drink, how can I get past the early 90s when the music was so good?, jawbreaker, kiss the bottle, music, punk rock on October 28, 2009 by lipstuckI hope we don’t just grow so old that we settle, like when you are really hungry and can’t think of a place to eat so you just go to the place down the street.
Dedicated Covers: Avail “Pink Houses (John Cougar Mellencamp)”
Posted in Pop Culture with tags avail, dedicated covers, john cougar mellencamp, music, pink houses, punk rock on October 28, 2009 by lipstuckOne of my favorite “You look like” stories was Tim and Beau from Avail saying I looked like Jack Palance. That is pretty much the coolest dude you could look like besides Christopher Walken.
