This band used to play around Western Mass.  They’d split their sets into two parts, an electric set (which this song was a part of) and a set featuring traditional songs on traditional acoustic instruments.  At the time, I didn’t understand why they’d waste their time playing that quiet folk music.

I mean, come on let’s get punk rock!  Dye our hair! Be angry! Most of the kids filling the rented halls agreed.

Of course I now recognize on a daily basis that the only difference between me and a dumb wet rock is the fact that I wear pants.

This band continues to play and is better than a red wagon full of lemonade on a hot summer day.

Build a treasure chest of wood and iron.  Put your treasures inside and lock it.  Row your chest out to sea and throw it in.

We’ll find it eventually.

When you go back home and see a familiar tree, or pass the apartment you lived in for one summer, when you begin to remember the particular curves of a back road, when you pass the exit you took once a week, when you stop and breath it in like a blast of cold air…you realize there are some memories you’ll never shake.
